Concern regarding a novel (new) human coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes the respiratory illness COVID-19, continues to grow as the number of confirmed cases has multiplied across the globe and throughout the United States. As of Friday, June 26, 2020, the Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed more than 33,000 cases of coronavirus in Alabama.

This unprecedented crisis has led to widespread school closures, impacting the lives of millions of students and creating myriad governance, operational and management challenges for local school boards.
